Sports and Social Clubs
50 Plus Club Wednesday 2.00pm - 11-30pm
At the 50+ Deaf Club we have bingo sessions every Wednesday afternoons. We hold raffles to win some prizes. At the Centre we have a skittle alley, two full size snooker tables, pool table and a fully Licensed bar. We go on outings three times a year. We go away for a 5-day holiday each year and went to Great Yarmouth and had a great time. We currently have 63 members and lots of birthday parties. Some of our members are in there 70's and 80's, come and join us.
Hard Of Hearing Club
The club was first established about 70 years ago, and has continued without a break ever since. In the old days the meetings were held on the opposite side of the square, transferring to the Centre when it was opened in 1962 The meetings have always been on a Tuesday evening whatever the weather.
The Purpose of the club is to bring together, support and entertain socially all hard of hearing folk of any race or colour. Club evenings can be simply card or table games, film shows, Bingo, Skittles. One of our popular evenings is fish and chip night or when home-cooked food is on the menu. More formal occasions are the Clubs national thanksgiving days and Christmas dinners. Outings are made to the seaside and other interesting places. A small committee of hard of hearing members runs the club. Meetings are held on Tuesday evening Between 6.30 & 9.00. The Centre For The Deaf set up Staple Hill Hard of Hearing Club in 1984. Both clubs enjoy various outings and events together. Staple Hill Hard of Hearing Club meet on First Tuesday of every month at the Staple Hill Methodist Church hall 2 - 4pm.
