Young Deaf People's Services
Our Aims
- To provide a place where young deaf people can meet for social and informal educational purposes;
- To provide an environment where young deaf people can learn about deaf culture, Sign Language and deaf identities;
- To provide access to deaf role models;
- To meet 'Five Outcome' in Every Child Matters.
Our objectives follow the Youth Work Curriculum:
- To empower young deaf people with skills to enable them to make decisions for themselves;
- To encourage young deaf people to participate and socialise with other deaf members and adults through arranged activities, including team building games, training, education and sport;
- To educate young deaf people by providing access to information in their preferred language, applicable to daily life situations, building self-confidence and esteem;
- To allow them to be expressive, develop confidence and reduce isolation, through working with others to improve skills in communication, co-operation and understanding the needs of others.
What we provide
- Junior Youth Club (6 - 10 years) - Mondays, 4pm to 6pm;
- Crazy Crew Youth Club (11 - 17 years) - Tuesdays, 6.00pm 9.00pm;
- Bristol Scream (18 Plus Club) - Thursday nights at the White Hart, Park Row [BEHIND PARK STREET?] - 8pm to midnight. NB. On the 4th Thursday of each month, we meet at Centre for Deaf People, where we have a Quiz Night, Fun Sports, a Pool Competition, Film Night, etc.
Outreach work
- Weekly Sign-Here Youth Club at Weston-super-Mare [WHERE IN WSM?], Wednesdays, 4pm to 6pm;
- Bath Deaf Youth Club at 69 Youth Centre, Weston, Bath[FULL ADDRESS?], every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
